27 places up!

Reutlingen is digitalizing in great strides! In the current Smart City Index of the Bitkom Association, we are seeing an impressive rise of 27 places to rank 51. From digital council work to innovative energy projects – Reutlingen shows how it’s done.

Reutlingen relies on comprehensive digitization for this: from fiber-optic supply to schools to the introduction of a digital document management system, a “Social Intranet,” free download of the city's cadastral data, online fine payment, the digital display of bus connections in the city hall, the online ordering system for break-time supplies for guests at cultural events in the city hall, or the digitization of the Reutlingen shopping voucher and the engagement platform engagiert-in-reutlingen.de for volunteers. But this is just the beginning. Projects such as the expansion of WLAN in the city center, the use of wastewater heat, and a sustainable bus fleet are already in the pipeline.

In addition to pioneers like München, Hamburg, and Köln, Reutlingen aims to make further progress in the future and establish itself among the "smartest cities" in Germany. The foundations have been laid – now it's time to implement the next digital milestones.
